The Dambe Project
OUR MISSION
The Dambe Project aims to promote cultural diversity, community development and mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing through presentations, and musical performance, events and workshops. We do this through creating and facilitating meaningful experiences for participants. The program is designed to bring professional artists and mentors in close contact with local communities.
The term "Dambe" comes from the Baman language of the Bamana people from the modern day region of Mali, West Africa. It is a term that refers to the ability to have integrity, honesty and responsibility towards ones self and others in the light of the creator.
The concept implies that if we can develop these virtues in the face of the creator then we are supported by our helping spirits and the ancestors and we are ultimately the creators of our own God-like existence.
While the Dambe Project does not prioritize one religion or spiritual practice over another, we aim to maintain values of integrity, honesty and responsibility in all our relationships throughout our lives.
Like while playing music, singing and dancing, we are all improvising our lives into existence, manifesting that which creates opportunity for growth and change to nurture our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual beings. |
